Our clients inherited the wife’s childhood home and wanted to make it their own. The overall renovation occurred in two stages with the interior of the home being renovated first to accommodate the needs of this family’s busy lifestyle.
Hosting large family dinners was a key ask! The main floor plan was chopped up with several small rooms. There was poor traffic flow throughout the home, especially from the front entry, garage to the kitchen. Storage was limited and inefficient.
By eliminating the living and dining rooms we transformed the home into an open-concept floorplan.
The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed and the space reconfigured. The kitchen cabinets were repositioned, and an oversized island added. The end wall now boasts a built-in pantry wall with a coffee bar. A window seat was added to the nook.
The front foyer had significant changes including relocating the garage access door which opened the front hall for more direct access. A large hallway closet was created. The laundry room was moved upstairs, near the bedrooms and replaced with a convenient main floor office.
We kept the stairway’s curved shape but added a stub wall to hide the treads. An existing void space under the stairway contains the essential mechanical services to the kitchen. A hidden door accesses that space, providing clever storage.
Upstairs, the master bedroom was re-imagined and upgraded. By removing a bedroom, we created a second master walk-in closet and a full laundry room. Plus, the master ensuite bath is now a spacious spa-like oasis!
